A cashiers check can. But this sounds like a scam my co-worker just went through. She was trying to rent out her 2nd home and she received an e-mail from someone saying they were being transfered from the U.K. and that the place was perfect and that his employer would send her a check for the entire amount she was requesting. Also his employer would be sending the check for a bigger balance than what was due her and that she was to give him the over payment amount upon his arrival. There was no amount stated of what the check would be. The check came and was written for $5,000.00 more than she needed. She gave the check to the police with her story and they verified that the certified cashiers check written from a U.S. bank was no good. So beware, it is a scam!!!

Yes, but it takes longer to clear. Go to your bank and make sure you have enough money in the bank to cover the check in case it bounces. Your bank will retrieve the money from the UK bank.
