Why do they call where you drive parkways and where you park driveways????

I've actually thought about this a bit.

"Way' is old term for 'path' or 'road', as in the old Roman Via Appia "The Appian Way", or as in 'wayside', meaning on the side of the way or road.

By this reasoning, 'driveway' is a path alongside a drive or street and 'parkway' probably originally meant a road that literally ran alongside a park.
