I went to Home Depot and bought rolls of reed fence ($20 per 6'x8') and then nailed it to the wall all the way around. Then I placed 6" potted tropicals around the room, hung billowy sheer curtains in my open doorways and windows, candle sconces on the wall along with a wall mounted water fountain.

I got so many compliments, everyone loved it. It had a tropical kind of flair without being too kitschy or feminine.

Thank you for your service to our country!!!

To answer your question...
Material, like cloth, will work extremely well. You can use tacks that will leave tiny pin holes in the paneling. If you position the tack in the groove you will not see the hole when you remove it.

I had an x neighbor who used aluminum foil to cover a wall. He was allergic to everything. The room had a strange sound with the foil on the walls.

GOOD Evening

Go to a store that sells materials (Cloth) They may have end of rolls and you can get them cheaper. Try this material on one or two walls. It looks great.
