underground burrows.

In temperate climates snakes must go underground in burrows to get away from the cold during the winter months. Most snakes will hibernate together, like the common Garter Snake, in the hundreds to stay warm in a burrow. Other terms include snake dens and snake hibernaculum.

Hibernation. It means different things depending on where the snake is. It could be out there soemwhere in a hoole in the ground, or just in a cage, or in a fridge, there's lots of places they hibernate in, but that's their winter.
Of course, you do find the reptile owners who think it's smart to keep the heat up in a cage and make them skip winter naturally, this has a huge effect on their cycles, in specific breeding. It's not smart.
In one case the owner 'pushed back' winter cause the snake had not excreted it's last meal, and in that case it was a smart move, the snake could have died.

Well, snakes live in the burrows of other animals that have been abandoned or that they have killed. Underground tunnels.
