I would say yes..or no..but my dad confused me so much when I asked that. I suppose we can get a cow from next door and try it. I have horses they can go up and down wide stair ways (About two and a half feet). When we ride in the mountains there are stone stairs sometimes logs. It's the only way horses won't slip. Cows could probably go on wide stairs too but not stairs that we have in our modern houses.

actually i work at lake farmpark in lake county ohio and all of our dairy cows walk up 4 stairs to the milking stand and then down 4 on the other side when they are done. so far no problems there. i would guess that it is just a myth. i don't know about really steep stairs though.

That is a quandary, alright. I have often wondered why Tillie has never come down from the attic. She seemed content, so I didn't bother her. I wish she would, though, 'cause carrying hay and water up to her is making me tired.

I've heard something like this before. I think it's more that they don't want to, rather than can't, but i'm not sure.

It is not that they can't, but that they really resist doing so.
