Hi,
I got the Avent breast pump at first because it had a lot of good reviews. I really liked it. It has a soft silicone lining which makes pumping more comfortable and imitates baby's sucking motion. Sometimes I don't even have to keep pumping, just one pump and the milk keeps flowing. The only thing I don't like about it is that it sometimes makes a screeching noise. The other one that I use I got in the hospital. It's the Ameda brand. It's not as fancy as the Avent, but it works well. It can also be used with the electric "pumper" that you can rent. But personally I hate those electric pumps! They make me feel like a cow :) :). Anyway if you'll only pump occasionally - like I do - you won't need the electric anyway.

Just a quick note: I pumped in the beginning between feedings to get my milk supply up. Now, after 4 months I only pump when we go out.

I recently baught a pump for occassional use. I asked the lactation consultant at my chemist and she told me the best brand to buy is Medela as they only make pumps and accessorites in regards to breast feeding. I baught the Medela Mini Electric pump. It also runs on batteries. It was $130, which is a tad expensive, but I guess its better then buying one that doesnt do the job as well or that you don't like and then having to buy another. Also the LC told me if you have any issues with the pumps Medela are really good with replacement/fixing and are super quick.

The Medela Pump In Style is very good. I got one (never used) at a garage sale for next to nothing. But they are kind of pricey if you are only going to use it once in a blue moon.

The manual advent pump that is around $25 bucks was good too.

You can pump just using your hand as well. Instructions for that are in the Womanly Art of Breastfeeding by La Leche League. Great book, btw.

Good luck on your wee one! And enjoy these last few weeks.

Get the best/most expensive. Don't cheap out on this. You can rent them with the pump from a lactation specialist. Also, get several extra of the pieces you need to wash because you don't want to spend all your time washing them. Hopefully, you can get the kind that washes in the dishwasher.

Medela Little Hearts pump ... its a manual pump so if you're lazy or figure you will be, get the electric one instead
