We are advised by our leaders to adopt multicuturalism and embrace other religious beliefs whilst at the same time they are inflicting a dubious and subjective democratic ideal on other (much older)cultures. I escaped from an oppressive regime in Laos in 1967.

The decisions and proclamations of a recovering alcoholic are sometimes quite difficult to absorb. If you use history as a hinge-pin for the argument, then look to a much older history than that of the USA.
Don't get fooled into further poking of your fingers into other countries' fires.

I think you have the wrong end of the stick when you claim that our "Leaders"encourage us to embrace multi-culturism, to tolerate other religions and in trying to force democracy on an older culture

First our "Leaders" go with the flow. It is pressure groups who do all the encouraging and inevitably politicians tend to jump on the bandwagon and claim the credit when it goes right
The freedom to worship and free speech - however cynically you wish to look at it is part of the US constitution and even with their unveiled attempts to restrict these freedoms by using terror as a tactic - I point to the long drawn out answer given by m&m, brainwashed by government propaganda, he has actually swallowed the Bush/Cheney rhetoric hook, line and sinker this is the same argument made on fox every minute of the day so nothing new there.

I have no problem with Bush as a recovering alcoholic, he has been off the sauce for long enough and often people in that situation see things with a clarity which so called normal people miss. I have a bigger problem with his "Born again" status this in conjunction with his "Recovery" is a lethal combination and can lead to a "Joan of Arc" situation - maybe this is what you mean when you find it difficult to understand his rhetoric.

I don't think that bending the country into any particular shape is at the top of anyones agenda. think you overestimate their desire and underestimate their greed I don't think it goes beyond oil. They are banking on the gratitude of the winners and that is the bottom line

Iran and Iraq will be destryoed totally by USA.It may take some more time.It is not religious war but economic war.USA wants to have a control over world oil resources and oil is not going to last for ever.Sizeable portion of world oil resources is with Muslim countries. Now what is being done by ODEPEC is oil black mail.World prices depend on certain decisions of OPEPEC countries. What ever the state of affairs in Iraq ,now Iraq is not in a position to regulate even small portion of oils supply or price. The same thing is going to happen to Iran.
If the total effect will be that as these Muslim countries cannot fight USA straight,terrorism/indirect fight will make our life miserable.

I think everybody's missing the point !. it's not about shaping a country, after 9-11 everyone's sense of security in this country was shattered, as well as our interests abroard. like an e- mail i sent to cnn. i expressed why i believe it is necessary to do what our military is doing..first , the 2 countries you mentioned posed a threat or potential threat , 2.do you really want to wait until iran does possess a nuclear ability, the problem is if we wait , and they develop nukes, it raises the stakes for everyone in that region , don't kid yourself, you'd be terrified if you came home one day & found out that iran , iraq or syria is a nuclear power!!. 3 . what's goin g on in iraq just shows that these insurgent, or terrorists have absolutely no regard for human life, not even their own people. These insurgents think they're fighting the good fight , but, they will eventually see how wrong they are. Or would you prefer to wait for another 9-11?, politics & commonsense demands that we do what we're doing right now!!. the public is upset , and understandably so , this is exactly what bush told us prior to invading iraq, that i t would not be easy,& that tough times are ahead, or were you not paying attention!!I'm not saying i agree w/ how president bush went about doing somethings but, what he's doing is necessary, you think bush was the first president to ever lie to congress to get a vote in favor of going to war, if so then you better brush up on your history!!. bottom line we're not trying to shape anything, we're not trying to turn them into americans, i just believe the world needs to be a safer place, and many times that comes w/ a cost.

sure, I dislike people who're consistently saying the international is a bad place, there is not any longer something good left. i might confer with them and tell them approximately all the attractive issues in existence, even issues that are so easy as seeing a baby smile and chortle or watching a butterfly.

I don't know about iran but with iraq they had a golden opportunity to really make something out of that country. The only person who fu*ked everything up was DONALD RUMSFIELD. Due to his poor planning, an insurgency flared up and now they can't control it.

Will they ever learn to go through the UN they are the holders of International law,Whether we agree or disagree,by bypassing them they are constantly sending the wrong message to the wrong country's that international law is irrelevant. This is why the world is a mess to many country's doing as they please.
