what does it mean "to crawl out of your skin"?

It depends on how it is used, in some instances it could mean to try something new and out of your comfort zone, on the other hand it could mean that something spooked you of "grossed you out" so much that you wanted to crawl out of your skin.
Example: The thought of spiders on me makes me want to crawl out of my skin.

It is to be so grossed out by something that it would seem that the only alternative is to follow through and 'crawl out of your skin'. This can be from fright, also. A more contemoprary meaning is when you're attempting something new, like overcoming a fear, or more specifically, you still have 'oogy' feelings about what you are doing.

To have a feeling of uneasiness or nervousness; the jitters, the creeps, the heebie-jeebies. A sensation of nerves on end immediately under the skin.

i know to jump out of your skin is to be scared or startled but i've never heard this one
