The first day of my last period was Feb. 24. My husband and I had sex on March 10 (day 14). A few days later, I started to get a metallic taste in my mouth. I took a hpt today (9 dpo) and it was negative Can I trust this hpt? Could I still be pregnant? When should I test again for results I can trust?

I can't go to the doctor right now so please don't suggest that.

By the way, my husband and I haven't even been married a year yet and we're not ready for a baby. I'm really hoping for a negative result.

Some people can get accurate results that early, but 9 dpo is very early to test. I know that it is hard to wait to test, but I would wait at least 3 more days if you can't stand it and have to test, but that is still a little early. I would suggest waiting until the day after you miss your period, that way you won't be wasting expensive tests on false negatives. You very well could be pregnant. People make the hormone hcg at different levels, and so it is best to wait until then so that you can be sure that the test will accurately give you the results. If you still get a negative result after you have missed your period, then wait another week and if you still have not gotten your period, I would suggest taking another test then. By then it should definitely be accurate. Just keep hope. 9 dpo is still very early, so I wouldn't necessarily trust those results. I hope this helps and good luck! I hope you get a positive!

I did the same thing. I think I'm just going to wait until the day I'm supposed to start. I did see an ad for at test that says you can test 5 days before your period. But I don't remember the name of it.
I went to the website (below) and this is what they had to say." In fact, 60% of women are not aware that using a pregnancy test 4 or more days before their expected period can give an incorrect result for more than 30% of pregnant women."

I've only ever gotten a positive once on 9 dpo.. it's not common, I'd try again on 12 dpo and even then you could still get a false negative. it takes time for the fertilized egg to implant and then only after implanting does it start to produce the hormone that you are testing for.. then you have about 2 days after that before the hormone gets into your urine. so my suggestion is to wait until 12 dpo.. it's hard I know :) hide those tests.. and then if still neg. wait to see if your period is late before you try again. best of luck to you !

You are more likely to get a false negative than a false postive. When you are pregnant your body produces a hormone called human chorionic gonatotropin (HCG) the only time your body produces this is when you are pregnant. If you think you might be pregnant you just need to wait about a week and take the test again, it might just be that your body is not yet producing high enough levels of HCG to be read by the test. Hope this helps.

Wait until your period is supposed to be due...That will give you accurate results. My sister took a test 10 days after she had sex and it came out negative, she went to the doctor to make sure, and she was pregnant....Not only that, but she just figured out a week ago, that she was having Triplets! Thats gonna be exiting!

Because you mentioned metallic taste in your mouth but i could be wrong.

Actually..nobody on here is 100% sure that you're pregnant, best way to get answers is docotor.

The first day of my last period was the 21st of Feb and we had sex on the 10th of march!
I feel like I have flu and slightly nausious! but it's not even 2 weeks! I'm sure I felt this with my first pregnancy but not my second.
Let me know how you get on!

If insurance is an issue go to planned parenthood. I think it's like $10 for the test if not free. Only a trained medical professional can answer your question accurately.
