I used SAMe (http://www.mynsp.com/carole/products/guide.aspx?stockNum=1845 ), Wild Yam Cream (http://www.mynsp.com/carole/products/guide.aspx?stockNum=4936 ) and Yoga (http://www.yogajournal.com - search for depression). The SAMe made a difference the first time I took it, the Yam cream helps replenish the lost progesterone and the yoga helps me stay centered and peaceful.
Motherhood can be a difficult transition for some of us. Take heart, you are not alone. There are lots of us who have a hard time. xoxo!
Peace!

Fresh air and sunshine
Exercise
Daily gratitude journal
Time for quiet meditation and/or prayer if you practice a faith
Adequate fluids
Healthy diet w/ lots of fresh fruits & veggies
Keep taking those prenatal vitamins
Support system that keeps you from feeling isolated (playgroup, mommy group, breastfeeding support like La Leche League, etc.)
Definitely let your doctor know you're having symptoms of PPD, and what you're doing to help yourself. S/he may feel that medication would be helpful, or may just want to monitor you as you try to overcome it on your own. There are anti-depressants that can be taken while breastfeeding, so even if you need to take a prescription, you should still be able to keep breastfeeding.
Weaning generally increases depression symptoms (not always, but in general), rather than relieving them, although it sounds like a good place to start for moms who are feeling "trapped" or tied down by the breastfeeding relationship. It can throw the hormones into a state of confusion, and end up doing more harm than good. If you decide that weaning is what's best for you in your situation, consider doing it very slowly, over the course of several weeks or even a couple of months, to gradually and gently transition your body out of the lactating state.
Best of luck to you; I hope this was helpful somehow!

Nurse more. Nursing releases a hormone to combat depression... Get more sun, and take a fish oil supplement with lots of Vit D. Vit D naturally helps with depression... ever wonder why people get "down" durring the winter? Its low Vit D!
If all else fails, there are meds that are safe to use while nursing.. but natural its always the least risky and fish oils provide lots of good omega 3's to help your little ones brain. I put a teaspoon of oil in my yogurt everyday... i definatly notice a difference in my mood and productivity.

First of all hun, realize that you are so blessed with a new little life. Second, you need to call your Dr. and see what he can do for you. Does the baby irritate you while breast feeding? If so, please tell the Dr. this.........he will NOT take your baby away from you. Post partum depression is very, very common and you are acting very naturally.......just let your Dr. know what is going on with you k? I am concerned .....please call your Dr. Blessings, Donna
