Dell.com. I must tell you though that I have had a LOT of problems with my DELL laptop and I would never get another one. I've had it since summer 2004 and since then I've had 2 hard drive replacements (crashes), I've replaced the cd-dvd drive, the battery (which is normal, apparantly), the fan (it was making a terrible terrible noise), the motherboard, and now it won't start because of some problem with microsoft (I think). I would ask around before choosing them. I might have gotten unlucky, but still, I wouldn't purchase another computer from them. I will say that they have really great customer support though. Mac's are more expensive, but more reliable... I'm not sure about HP or other PCs.

Is it vital that it be a LAPTOP,be aware laptops go through a lot of bumps and bruises.think--cracked screens, failed drives, etc.
If you really don't have a lot of money, consider a desktop and don't go to pawn shops. Instead invest between 300 or 400 dollars at a reputible computer stores and use the REBATES to cut the price down

Keep an eye peeled for sales at Best Buy & Circuit City. I got a great HP for about $900 and I got about $180 back in rebates that I sent in.

You can go to Office Depot, Sams Club, Costco, Circuit City, Best Buy, Staples, etc. You can also go to Dell's website and order it from there.

Check out your local city, state, craig's list. They always have somethin depending on where you live. I bought a brand new inspiron 1000 and it works great!! I paid $1000, but I had a $150 rebate on it. So really about $850.
