what does it mean to be a fruit cake?

Those answerers that said they were calling you a homosexual, that is not what fruity means. The ones that called you fruity may have meant it that way, but only because they're ignorant of what the word means. Meaning is dictated by usage, and who knows, maybe that's what fruity will eventually mean.

An good example of this is the word fa g or fa g got. A fa g got is a piece of wood. It was also a slang term for cigarette. How it came to be a derogatory term of a homosexual is anybody's guess. You will note that Y!A won't even let me type the word without putting spaces in between the letters. Just like I can't type the word for a wild burro (a ss) without putting spaces between the letters.

What's with all this "it means you're gay" crap?!

If you call sombody a fruit, then you are probably trying to call them gay, but a fruit CAKE is something entirely different!

It means that they think you are not with it, you are "nutty" in the brain, that you are not all together or paying attention. It COULD also mean they think you are gay. Whatever they meant by it, it was surely NOT meant as a compliment. They probably didn't answer what they meant 'cos they didn't know either. Depends how old the person was. The orignal saying was "He/She is as nutty as a fruitcake", ergo calling you a fruitcake means you are nuts. In case you have never had one, a fruitcake is a mixture of flour, dried fruit and nuts usually soaked in some form of alcohol which means they are preserved, last forever and tend to become as hard as bricks. Still if you are hungry enough the are marginally edible.

i don't know where your from but when we say there in texas it just means you're being goofy in a weird way. or sometimes it means ur acting gay. But we don't take any offense. it's not really a word used to insult anyone badly.
