An isolated incident - one of VERY few in eighteen years without fences in the top division.
Compare that to pretty much every other country around Europe - and don't get me started on South America - and you'll see that the English fans are among the best behaved in the world.
I've never seen any trouble at a match from English club or national team fans.
We're still suffering the reputation from the seventies and eighties, so everybody makes a big deal when the slightest thing happens, but you have to remember that there can be up to 78,000 fans in a stadium (Man Utd) at up to ten stadia on a full Premiership program 38 times a year.
Taking average attendance to be about 40,00, that's 40,000 times 10, times 38 = 15.2million - and that doesn't include the cups.
Say there's 10 of these incidents a year - which I'm fairly sure there isn't - that would still be a one in 1.52million who were causing trouble of this sort.
Compare that to the general population getting into fights and I think you'll find we're quite well behaved.
The rest of the world would do well to learn from us. The Italians had to suspend their programme recently, the Spanish get all kinds of things thrown on the pitch - and racism is rife, the Turks thing racism is obligatory and have never been really punished since the deaths of two Leeds fans a few seasons back and the South American countries have actual shootings over football matches.
But we English get batoned at Italian grounds when italian fans hurl seats at us (Man Utd and Liverpool in the Champions League), teargased in France when trying to flee a potential crush situation (Man Utd fans at Lille this year), Hemmed in and not allowed to use the toilets in Turkey (last World cup qualifiers)....
And as for that one idiot who tried to spoil it for everyone else, I hope he gets a kicking out the back, because that sort of idiot only understands one language.

To tar all English fans with the same brush is a little harsh. Sadly this behavior is happening in many countries throughout the world and in more sports than Football. Individuals need to be made responsible for their actions and this will only happen when their punishment becomes more than a slap on the wrist. It is disgraceful behavior no matter what country the fans and at times players are from.

Theres unfortunately always going to be that element of idiot wherever you are in the world...just look over the past few months at Italian football and the Rangers fans in Spain last week (was on YouTube).
Only harsh penalties (eg shutting stadiums, points docked, relegating misbehaving fans' teams) may sort this out...but I'm not holding my breath..

English fans have unfortunately got a bad reputation and some times the odd nutter or two do bring down our national game. However, it's very rare you hear people talk about the appaling behaviour of Italian or Turkish fans who have a much worse (recent) record of violence in both domestic and international matches.
England fans do get a lot of unfair criticism.

English fans will ONLY learn to behave WHEN the courts tell them to do so, by locking up the IDIOTS for 3 years or more for their actions.
Until then definitely NOT, sad to say.

It's not just english fans. It's just the english media report it, I live in Holland & refuse to go to any footy matches here because they are all thugs/idiots but you hear NOTHING about it on the tv because they don't want to damage thier reputation in europe.

Sadly, "behaving" is beyond SOME English football fans - but some of us do know how to behave.

It's really bad I mean people should understand that football is entertainment, humanity does not depend on the scoreline of the Chelsea-Tottenham game. Has anyone noticed though that these things only happen when Chelsea are playing? coincidence?
