It is hard these days for young girls to get close to their mothers. Sometimes mothers are too busy and don't make enough time for any of their kids. And sometimes the kids are too afraid or embarrassed to tell their parents anything. In this world we live in today it is hard to keep a healthy family. Try sitting down and eating diiner at the table, have a conversation about your day.Let your kids now that it is o.k. to talk to you about his/her problems, give them the security that they need.

Well, I think it is more of a human thing than a daughter thing. Quite often family will take the advice of a stranger over someone they think is telling them something they think they want to hear.

It sounds like you don't have a lot of faith in this forum, like "we are strangers answering questions we shouldn't be"? I have found that most people here are here because they do care about community and others, kind of a nice switch from the everyday world.

It actually proves people are basically good, and I bet that doesn't float with a lot of angry narrow minded people. Hey, maybe we'll start a movement, getting back to being human beings and caring about one another. Hmmmm

Because daughters dont usually like their mothers answers and want a stranger to back them up. Kind of like mom saying no and turning around and getting a second opinon from dad. Dont judge if you havent been there.

I'm not a mother. I am a nurse. Even being a dude hasn't stopped several of my friend's daughters asking me all sorts of questions regarding sex, relationships, their periods, drug use, you name it.

Almost every one of the girls said the same thing: "I can't ask my mom 'cause she'll think I'm doing something bad." They believe I will not judge them like a parent might (and I encourage that so they will at least ask SOMEONE). Another big one is embarrassment. Also, as an "outsider" I am less threatening and more likely not to let my emotional involvement color my answer...

And yes... a couple of my friends have been angry when they found out their kids would talk to me but not them. But I remind them that they had non-parents that they talked to instead of their own parents... Our kids are really no different than we were...

And a very good question!
Maybe though, the mothers have actually told them better than to be involved in a lot of the questions they are asking about and they are ashamed.

Because people like to find things out for themselves. Some of these girls have asked their mothers and are looking for confirmation or an answer they like better. Others have mothers who are working now or who are uncomfortable with the subject. What difference does it make to you?

Peace!

Sometimes, it's too personal or embarrasing to ask mom. If you think she might be disgusted or think less of you , it's easier to ask a friend or stranger.
As a mom, I just embarass my daughter by talking about everything, even gross stuff, so she doesn't have to ask.
And she does ask me stuff.

Well, obviously, the girls want information that either their mothers aren't giving them, or that they are afraid to ask. Sometimes it's easier to open up to a complete stranger. Note the popularity of "Dear Abby", etc.

because if it makes her more comfortable to find the answer she wants anonymously and privately then i can comply - so long as she doesn't abuse other people. sometimes daughters get embarassed when confronting their parents about certain issues or the parents just don't know the answer or are unwilling to give one, so i'd rather her get the answer she wants anonymously than not ask anyone at all.

Because it's embarrassing! Especially at that age. I doubt you asked your mother everything you thought of or wondered when you were a teenager.
