if a stranger took the time to smile at me then i will take the time to smile back
if i smile first and they don't smile back i don't take it personally maybe they are having a bad day or just not use to someone showing kindness

Yeah. A smiling face is very pleasant to look at and I just instinctively smile back. Nothing beats a happy disposition, I think.

yes except I think a lot of the time people do smile at me and I dont realize they are because I dont have my glasses on so I dont smile back and they probably think I'm being rude..oh well! the downsides of not being able to see far away!! ahaha ..oh but if it is creepy guy trying to hit on me kind of smile..then no i dont smile back.

Depends on a lot of things. Sometimes if you smile back they take it as a come on which it is not meant to be.
