Because republicans are brain-dead. Even a clip of the guy saying no connection or WMD's won't convince them.
They are delusional. Rove/Rush/Fox brainwashed them well. They are dim-witted followers by nature and bow to authority without question. Uniforms and flags/symbols turn them on. This is a fact!
