Well, Vietnam turned out to be a mistake. How many do we have to lose before this is recognized by all to be a mistake...as stated earlier, three thousand plus ain't that many....unless it's your son, your daughter, etc etc etc etc.....
Your question sounds like this is just so much "collateral damage " to you and your ilk....is it any wonder this country is in such a state...

The ratio of wounded to killed among U.S. forces in Iraq is about 8 to 1, compared with 3 to 1 in Vietnam.

These days, wounded are a much better measure of the intensity of the operations than killed. So, we would have to compare the wounded in Vietnam on it's 4th anniversary.

Even if I found the stats for Vietnam for wounded, we have virtually have only hazy ones from the government on Iraq wounded.

For the last few months, anyone who consulted the Veterans Affairs Department's Web site to learn how many U.S. troops had been wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, the number shown was 50,508.

But on Jan. 10, without explanation, the figure plummeted to 21,649.

Which is correct? The answer depends on the definition of wounded. If the term includes combat or "hostile" injuries, the definition the Pentagon uses, the smaller number would be right.

But if it also applies to injuries from accidents and mental and physical illnesses that developed in the war zone, the meaning that veterans' groups favor, 50,508 would be accurate.

I'm neither liberal nor conservative, so I will state facts. More died in Vietnam than in Iraq. The war in Vietnam however lasted longer and also, advances in body armor medical technoligies are saving lives in the battlefield. We would have more dead than we do if it were not for advances in battlefield medicine and advances in body armor and personal protection.

We lost 58,000 in Nam in about 10 years. A little over 3,000 in Iraq in 4 years, which is about twice as many as we lost on Iwo Jima in 30 days, 7,000 Marines and 30,000 Janpanese!

nearly 60,000 in Vietnam and that does not count those that died as a result of their wounds , committed suicide thanks the crappy treatment the Jane Fonda's of the world inspired so many Americans to heap upon them. So Far somewhere North of 3,000 in Iraq and if you ask me not one of these lives were "wasted" as implied by that fag Sen Kerry. They all (Both Wars) Served, Died as Heros and if still alive are Heros today!!

About 62K in Vietnam and soon to be 4K in Iraq. Not sure what your point is. It was body counts that got GEN Westmoreland justifiably fired.
