Kinda understand his question. Is the earth through and through or are the contentents just deep islands. And is the water the true vast entirety of earth. Believe scientists still have not found a way to travel to the deepest submerged waters. They've gone deep and discovered different species but can't go deeper due to pressure.

THe responce for his level is the earth is all rock, the oceans are like big lakes on top of the rock.

The floor of the ocean is just like the surface of the earth there are hills and mountains, volcanoes and ravines. Islands like hawaii and others are the very tops of volcanoes and mountains that stick up throught the surface of the water.

We have reached the bottom with probes even in the marianes trench, the deepest part of the ocean.

Incidently the earth isn't all rock, the crust is rock, below that is lava(magma) with is liquid molten rock, and in the center the best guess from siesmic observations etc. is the earth has an iron core...this is what gives us the magnetic field and north ans south pole....but that might be to much info for his age.
