Hi. I have a BT yahoo hub (wireless compatible) which is currently connected to my PC.

If i have a wireless card can i connect my new laptop to the Internet, even though my laptop is vista, and my pc is XP?

And do i need a special wireless card because my laptop is vista? (the laptop says i need a 802.11g card if this helps)

Thank you so much for any help.

Yes you can still connect your vista pc to the internet wirelessly, it doesn't mater that they are on different operating systems. And an 802.11g card is the same PC card that you would need for a notebook no matter if you have Vista or XP.

from what i discovered from bt support ,the hub is not vista comaptible yet
i discovered this when i downloaded the beta in october 2006 and phoned bt broadband support, they told me that obviously if your using a ethernet connection you dont need any drivers this is only when using usb
however you may be able to connect to the bt home hub by using a wireless card(and software) that is vista comaptible as long as its 802.11g which is the type the home hub uses
the best bet for purchasing a vista compatible wireless card is either belkin(http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatSectionView.process?Section_Id=200340) or bt (http://www.shop.bt.com/icat/broadbandaccessories)
also when connecting hardware to vista laptops vista will search the internet for drivers if not found in the o/s and while in xp this was most of the time unsuccsefull,in vista its quite good
i hope this has helped
good luck

Your laptop should have come with a wireless card, unless it was a real 'budget' version.

Switch it on, click on the icon of the two little computer screens on the bottom right of your screen and it will tell you what wireless networks are available, if it came with a card.

Click on 'my broadband' one and enter the number on the back of your BT hub. Apart from initially entering the security number, it'll be automatically connected.

If there is no little computer screen icon on your bottom toolbar then go to control panel, go to device manager, go to network adapters and if there isn't a '802.11g' listed under there, you need to buy a card.

You will need a Vista-compatible wireless card. Not all hardware works with Vista because Vista is so new. You can go to the card manufacturer's website and see if they have a Vista-compatible drive for it. Or, look here:
