I plan on flying to the phillippines for leave before I fly to korea for my new duty station,do I need a passport?

Yes. You need a passport unless you are on official military business which you are not so you will need a passport.

Is the Philippines just a stopover for your trip to Korea? --> No passport needed, since you'll be staying at the airport premises only.

Or are you really going to stay in the Phils for a few days? --> Yes, you'll need one. But I think you won't have a hard time getting one, since you're in the army.

yes, if you;re on personal vacation, but f you;re in official business like balikatan, you don't need passport.
