all right. listen carefully and listen good. First of all, what exactly are you afraid of? The people that are watching you, or messing up? Well, think of it this way, the only way you are going to mess up is if you dont try your best, a.k.a if you're scared. So remember that the people in the audience are here for a good show, and they'll only laugh if you're nervous because you have to trust yourself and trust that you'll do good and you'll be the best. Breathe a few times, deep breaths, and close your eyes and imagine yourself up there. If there's someone backstage with you or before you go up, get a hug-it usually calms yor nerves and always know that the people arent there to laugh at you, they are there to watch a great performance, which of course you'll give them! :]

For myself and for my vocal students the thing that has worked the best so far is taking every opportunity to sing in public. We go once or twice a month as a group to a karaoke "bar" to sing at the mic. There have been great improvements in a lot of my students and even the more reserved ones are warming up to getting ahold of the mic now!
Just take every opportunity you can - church is a great place to gain experience in singing/speaking in front of a crowd.
Good luck!

Take deep breaths and just go for it. Forget the audience. The worst part is usually right before you perform. Once you've started singing or whatever, you'll feel more comfortable.
Good luck, hon. You'll do great with whatever you're doing!

practicing. i had the same problem but when i practiced a lot, i got more comfortable in front of an audience. Try performing in front of your family, then maybe friends, then you'll be ready to perform in front of people you dont know. Good Luck.

Experience is very helpful... you'll find that after doing these things a couple of times it starts to be less nerve-wracking... or you can just imagine the audience are all rabbits or something... :)

Physically--breathe slowly, stretch slowly.
Realize that the audience is there to enjoy you and want you to do well.
Think of yourself as providing a service to them--giving them a wonderful experience.
