Aw you can totally handle a Guinea Pig. They're so great.

Just make sure you keep their cage clean and feed them lots of Timothy Hay (not alfalfa, not bagged Guinea Pig food) and that they have lots of water. Guinea pigs can get obese very easily so try and steer clear of feeding it a lot of lettuce and fruits because they have so much water in them.

Guinea Pigs don't need a wheel or any toys in their cage, they are super social and would much rather be hanging out with you! So the more you hold em and play with them the happier piggy you will have.

Make sure you have a cage with a flat bottom, not a grate or a cage-like bottom— those cages are made for rabbits who have big feet. Your pig's little legs will slip right through!

Getting your pig at Petco is totally fine, but take a good look at them. Clear eyes, clean ears and nose-- and listen to the breathing, make sure it sounds healthy. If all those are good you should have a healthy pig to take home.

I never found much difference between girls and guys. Guys will get a little bigger. I got my Pig at Petco, but three months later I got the unusual surprise of baby pigs. Turns out she was pregnant when i got her and I didn't know. But she lived a long life of 6 years and was totally my fav pet— Go for it, you'll have a great time!

Guinea pigs are awesome pets. Try to find one to rescue before you buy one. Try Craig's List, your local shelter and the classifieds. Also, please do some research before you get your new pig. If you feed and house your pig correctly, it will live for as long as eight years. There are some very useful forums online related to guinea pigs.

Its very important to supply your pig with vitamin c. They cant make vitamin c naturally in their body so they can get sick without it. i know petco sells drops you can put in their water. also when you get your pig at petco ask for a care sheet it will tell you different facts about the animal and all the things you will need to care for it.
