This is my second pregnancy. My doctor checked for the heartbeat first at 10 weeks, but said that the chances of hearing it were small. Luckily, we were able to hear it! 12 weeks is considered standard, but don't be afraid if they still can't find it. In my first pregnancy, they couldn't find the heartbeat at 14 weeks, so they sent me for an ultrasound. Everything was perfect. The baby was just in the wrong position!

It's another one of those things that is different for everyone.

Sometimes as early as 8 weeks. However, my doctor first attempted to listen with a doppler at my 10 week appointment and was unable to hear it, so it wasn't until my 14 week appointment that we actually heard it with the doppler.

As far as the fetal heart monitors, if it's one you vought at Wal-Mart or Target, you probably won't be able to hear anything with it until your at least 28-30 weeks. Some women never hear it with those because they aren't very "high-tech". If it's one that you bought or rented online and is a "medical" doppler, then you can start trying as early as 8 weeks, but don't be concerned if you can't hear it until you're further along.

Good luck!

With a doppler, you normally can hear it about 12 weeks along. You would put the doppler very low on your stomach, right by your hair line. You can see the heartbeat much earlier on an ultrasound, about 6 weeks. Congrats!!

I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks, and could see a heart beat.
But, I haven't heard it yet.

They say by 12 weeks you should be able to...sometimes before that you can't, since baby is still partially behind your pubic bone.
