Limewire is loaded with viruses. Download Avast! Antivirus (NOT from Limewire), but from www.avast.com.
It is free to use all you need is to enter your email to get a free code that will last a year. It will give instructions on how to scan your computer.
But also, you can an IM Filter, File Sharing program filter, Network Scanner, Outlook Email scanner, and web scanner. If you don't know what they are they basically scan everything as you're doing them so a virus doesn't sneak into your computer. Avast also gives you clear instructions on how to delete a virus if one appears.
If you pay for Norton or another virus thing, get rid of it and switch to avast! Antivirus

How to get it:

www.avast.com

Click "download"

Click "download programs"

Click "Avast 4 Home Edition FREE download"

Find the English version or the big green button that says download.

When done, restart your computer. Right click on the icon in the tray and scan. It will ask you for a key. Click Register and type in your email they will send you a free key.
It seems complicated but its not at all. It takes about 5 minutes or less on DSL.

They got cha! Start by going to trend micros housecall and do an online free scan. You do need some sort of protection like mentioned above. AVG is good. You need a firewall too. Zone Alarm works well for that. There are a lot of free good protection programs out there. If you are downloading, always consider the source. Only get free things from sites you know are safe.

Probably got a virus, worm, or trojan.....peer-to-peer networks are notorious for this.

Try BitDefenders online scan utility. one of the best out there. And I recommend this as a SHORT-TERM fix only.

For a more long term fix, go BUY a reputable antivirus (System Mechanic Pro is available at WalMart for around $40...and is again, one of the best). I say BUY one...because you get what you pay for...and how good can AVG or AVAST be...afterall... they're FREE. Keep in mind, however...that new viruses/worms/trojans appear DAILY...there is NOT ONE...thats right...NOT ONE antivirus program on the market today that can gaurentee that they will catch everything....it is a mathmatical impossibility. To this end, I would finally advise refraining form the use of peer-to-peer programs as this is likely the source of your agony to begin with.

Yeah, it's more then likely a virus, one of the many things limewire can give you. The program, you most likely illegally downloaded, came from another users computer, who had the program installed, must have uploaded it onto limewire and in doing so must have uploaded a virus they didn't know there computer was infected with.

In order to get rid of the virus, you need to use your virus protection software to remove it. If you don't have one then, you should either downloaded one of the free ones like AVG or go out and buy one like Norton.

Probably not a virus but a trojan, taking into account the pop-ups you say you get...
Well, you could use a virus software like BitDefender (best of the best for me!!)

or

you can recover your pc before the time this little incident hapened. It will cause you no data loss and it should erase the executable file ( .exe) that launches on startup and keeps pestering you...

good luck!

2 programs to sort this problem, first AVG antivirus from http://www.free.grisoft.com second Spybot search and destroy from http://www.download.com
Between those 2 it's a guaranteed fiv. I'd try Spybot first.
