I am a huge romantic and I don't like the fact that people cant distinguish between self-love, career, friends, hobbies and finally the pleasure of being with your soulmate, having their children, etc... but i found that looking at paintings with love themes makes me happy. and i'm considering strating to paint myself. but i wonder, can this really work, at the end of the day, you know how it is...there is this endless longing...

Paint, paint, paint. You go girl! If that is what makes you happy, it certainly doesn't hurt anyone in the process. People in your position who are creative do their best work under emotional turmoil. Don't plan on this being a long term solution to your "condition". You can't create love even if you find someone to spend your time with. I was once very active in the love department and often sought after. Now I don't have any time or desire, so I do other things; but never have the longing that you refer to. If I should get that way in the future, I don't see myself shopping for love, but just more open and receptive to possible connections. Casual sex is an option, but if it doesn't work for you then don't waste your body or your health over it.

That does not sound like a good substitute. Instead, you are admittedly trying to trick yourself into being okay without what you are longing for. You need to instead find a way to be okay with yourself and your situation without trying to ignore or forget.

Here's a few suggestions to boost your self confidence and aide in loneliness.

Try getting a pet... such as a dog or a cat. This gives you an opportunity for companionship and an opportunity to love and nurture. This can be very stress relieving.

Start a new hobby. You mentioned painting. Go for it! The confidence and fun you have with painting will allow you to enjoy your own company a bit more!

Try meeting new friends ... and make sure to make it about meeting friends and not mates so you don't feel so much social pressure. You could try going dancing, go see a movie, join a club, etc.

Good luck! Remember, romantic love finds us when we are not looking for it. You have to be able to enjoy yourself and be okay alone before you are truly able to give to a partnership.

Painting is PERFECT!! That's what interests me and uses up my time!! You will find you love watercolor, acrylic, or oils (I love all 3) and it's not expensive if you use canvas boards at first. Painting is the very best way to be naturally romantic. It's better than poetry. And color soothes the soul. DO IT!!!
You want romance to be real and not a picture so you're willing to keep the dream alive until the real thing comes along. The Bonus is he might Inspire you to paint Even More!! (And it feels fantastic the first time you paint one that you love and think is good and you frame it and hang it where you sleep!) I think these other people want you to go out and get randomly laid and they are all drinking!! @8-) for you

So tired of broken hearts and loosing at this game before ... I'll stop this dance, and take a chance, I'm telling you I want more than just romance.

You are my destiny, I can't let go baby can't you see? Cupid please take your aim at me .... Cherish the through of always having you here by my side ... oh baby, I cherish the joy, you keep bringing it into my life --- I'm always singing it ... Cherish the strength, you got the power to make me feel good. Oh, Baby I perish the thought, of ever leaving, I never would.

I was never satisfied with casual encounters, I can't hide my need when two hearts that beat ... a burning love, that's the way it's got to be. Romeo & Juliet, they never felt this way I bet, so don't underestimate my point of view.

by beggining to act upon an internal longing you will find that soon you will articulate even more details of what it is that you want & ideas of how to get what you want.

taking up painting since you've found the medium to express what you feel inside is very healthy ..... go for it.

oh yea.... the end of the day - - - perhaps a bit more of a focus on the journey itself.

good luck : )

Well, honestly, I don't think there is anything that can replace love.

But, if you're feeling sort of down about love, try doing something exciting. Your brain cannot often tell the difference between feelings of excitement and love. They both make you feel good because it releases certain neurotransmitters that make a person feel good.

It is definately not a substitute but I think it is a good idea. It will keep your mind off of wondering when you are going to meet that soul mate. . . .and you never know you might meet that person through your painiting. Someone that loves paintings as you do.

There is no substitute for love - but there is a thriving industry of pain killers and BS for those who are looking for such a substitute - don't be fooled. Guard your loving soul and nourish it while you still have it. It is possible to lose it if you go without love long enough.

I think you have found your true passion. Is it a substitute? No. It is something that signifies what you hold dear. Nourish your soul. Your significant other will show when you least expect it.

it is a way for you to express your desire. I think it is wonderful! Who knows, maybe when you open a studio, the person you never want to be without will walk through the door and feel the same way about you!
