Today I got my mail and one of the letters that enclosed a personal check was opened from the bottom but nothing was taken. They could have got the routing number and put the check back in. This isn't the first time this has happened. A bank statement was opened all the way with someone else I live with just recently so I think this is kind of strange. Do you think it is something to be concerned about? Or does this happen all the time? Its just kind of strange that it only happens when there is money involved. What do you think?

It is most definitely something to be concerned about - ID theft is rampant. Check with your bank to see if there has been unusual activity and I think they can flag your account. Also, get a locking mailbox. You should talk with your mail carrier to see if they have been having problems in your area.

If you feel that your mail is being tampered with, contact your local post office about your concerns. If there are any options available to you, they will let you know.

We had someone stealing packages from our mailbox, so I called the post office and set it up so that the mailperson would bring the packages to the door instead.

I got a PO Box for all of my financial mail. I dont trust anything of importance being put into an un locked box.If it is being put into a locked box then maybe you need to report the mailman.
