Nope, monitor doesn't heat up enough to cause a fire hazzard. Anyways if it would get hot enough (which it certainly wouldn't) don't think your cat would be stupid enough to just stay there roasting.

i hope not. poor kitty.
seriously, a monitor is a high voltage device and requires the vents be clear, if muffins is blocking the vents then the monitor could overheat, and possibly catch fire, although most monitors these days have circuit breakers or fuses that cut the power before a fire could start. why not put something else near or over your monitor for kitty to sleep on, like a shelf or something. the hair getting in the vents isn't great either.

Are you worried about the monitor catching fire or the cat. Only kidding I love cats. Ours likes to sleep on my clothes, no-one elses just mine and this is something all our cats have done. One of our cats used to get behind a chest of drawers and climb into it to go to sleep.
I wouldn't worry about the build up of hair to be honest. Do we worry about the dust that collects in all our electrical equipment and ther's nothing I can think of better than sitting at the pc looking at PU55Y!!!!

Wow - thought only my cat did that!...no fires, but monitor did develop an unpleasant burning smell, shortly before it refused to work. The monitor did restart after a good clean out of its innards...
I have a flatscreen now...I don't have to worry about cat-haired stuffed monitors anymore, however...
...the claw marks on the screen aren't great, as she trys to fathom out why her bum won't fit anymore...
...then there are the newly arisen 'printer balancing' problems...
...and, of course, the numerous problems of living with a p*ssed off puss...

I would have to say likely. Also your cat's fur can get staticly attracted to the components inside the moniter which would cause a burnt hair smell and maybe over time cause moniter failure. The cat is prolly sleeping there because it is warm...It is warm because it is venting heat from the internal components. Heat is bad for electronics.

She does it because it is warm up there. Monitor has holes on top through which air is circulate and keeps the monitor cool. If your cat sleeps on that, it could prevent the iar from circulating and thus cause the monitor to overheat.

my cats used to sleep on top of the tv...which eventually broke down because it was full of cat hair! i solved this by buying a plasma and hanging it on the wall...and buying an lcd monitor for the comp...rather an expensive option and they pretty peed off with me... but at least my stuff is cat hair free xx

No - more than likely she will move before she catches on fire, the hair can't be good for the monitor though...

It's probably not a good idea as the monitor might overheat. I guess there is always a possibility for fire in this instance.
