Two or three thousand bucks if it equals the war year that the mint used steel. That year, only a dozen or so coppers made it into circulation. Put it in a safe deposit box right away or sell it, but its a mistake to have it lying around--you might spend it or lose it to a soon to be former friend.

The steels are worth next to nothing. A wiley dealer will offer you 25 cents for the copper penny and show you a list with the steel penny's value. Beware.

All 1942-S cents are copper, there were 85,590,000 struck that year at the San Francisco mint. it is not a scarce coin and in circulated grades is worth 2-5 cents.
