I just looked at the standings for the first time in about 2 weeks (I'm an Oilers fan so it has been painful) and I would have to say that the Avs have a shot. If things fall into place for them and they go an a hot streak as the Flames drop a couple of games, they will get in. Colorado will have to take advantage of my Oil's slump and get a couple of wins. I think that this could come down to the last game, Avs vs Flames. When that happenes I will be cheering for the Avs like crazy.
The Avs also have 3 games vs the Canucks, so they will need to work their hardest in those games. The Flames will have a bit tougher of a time down the stretch as they play the Wings and the Preds and back to back Wild games. I want to see this come down to game #82 and I want to see Joe Sakic get a hatrick in the win.

Well, if the Flames don't pick up their act pretty soon, they're gonna be out of the standings in a couple of days. The Avs only need 3 games to get ahead of the Flames, so it wouldn't be hard if the Flames kept losing.
However, the Flames have quite a solid defense most of the time (Phaneuf), plus a couple of great scorers (Tanguay, Iginla, etc.). If they start winning their games (like tomorrow's game (Tuesday)), they'll probably end up keeping the eighth spot.

In the modern NHL where a team can still get a point despite losing, the Flames have a very good chance of going to the playoffs.

the avs are hot, and the flames are idle.
what goes up must come down.

They are fine IMHO, but I am biased for the flames.
Should be interesting if the Avs can pick up any ground.
