If it's true...how is that possible?

yes because if the baby HAS teeth, sucking on the pacifier makes the teeth grow outwards. It's best that u take the pacifier away, unless u want ur child(ren) having buck teeth. Sucking on a thumb does that ALSO.

Not sure about a pacifier, but I know that my mom sucked her thumb until she was 10 years old and her front teeth are very crooked because of it. She hates the way they look. I imagine sucking a pacifier wouldn't be much different. Check with your pediatrician.

My oldest son used a pacifier all the time when he was a baby. He is now 10 and has perfect teeth, so I guess its not true for all of them

no it's not true, it's just a very commonly believed myth. excessive sucking (like all day every day) may temporarily cause the teeth to shift outward, but it is not permanent, when the pacifier stops, the teeth go back to normal if they ever moved at all, and it has absolutely NO effect on adult teeth. I had my pacifier until I was four (yes I said four, get over it) and I never got buck teeth.

That's not true. I used a pacifier as a baby and my teeth are straight :)

They are far more likely to have bucked teeth if you have buck teeth than due to any contact with a pacifier.....and thumbs are a killer.

It is true, and bottles if they have them after their teeth start to come in and by that time, good luck trying to get your kid to give it up! Talk to your dentist or visit the American Dental Association site -- you can get tons of info on how to keep those teeth healthy! I never used pacifiers with either of my children. I think they are a waste of time and cause too many problems trying to break them. Good luck!

Yes, its true. Try to ween baby off as soon as possible. Do not let them have a pacifier once they start getting teeth.
