the largest contributing factors are the level of fulfilment as a child (birth to say 13 or 14), personality type, birth order among siblings and fulfilment as an adulesent.

..... with that being written - perhaps you desire for yourself to be more optimistic ? perhaps you feel your too negative ? .... if so a good start to make a change would be to chart out for yourself what is positive in your life, what you feel is negative and the (5, 10 or even up to 15) things you would like to change right now..... list those items out #1 ..... #2 etc. ( try to list at least 1/2 of the items that you can do right away - - - for instance you feel it is negative that it seems the dishes are never done, perhaps because the person assigned that chore in the house does not meet your standard..... so take that item to change and you do the job to your satisfaction)

After about 3 months look back at the accomplishments that you have made. Feel positive about what you can do for yourself & go from there.

i hope this helps : )

I think the best way to start is by pretending or acting to be optimistic. Even if you don't really feel that way . . tell yourself you do. Speak with confidence and as you only see the positive side of things. Surround yourself around people who are optimistic. Trust me before you notice it , the optimism won't be just an act. When you say and act a certain way long enough, and surround yourself around certain people, it becomes you.

Surround yourself with people who are positive thinkers. This is very important. Negativity is contagious, and so is optimism.

Develop the habit of saying positive affirmations in your head, over and over all day. Put up little reminders around your house to think positive thoughts. This helps you develop the habit of thinking like an optimist. Negative thinking is a habit that can be broken. The methods vary from person to person, so look for what works for you.

1. Recognize negative thoughts.
2. Ask yourself what the positive side is.
3. Quietly say the positive things to yourself.

While becoming an optimist, don't become deluded. Recognize reality, but recognize that most things have a bright side. Even people who have been traumatized can say, "It was horrible, but recovering from it made me stronger."

Engineers and A Glass of Water:

To the optimist, the glass is half full.
To the pessimist, the glass is half-empty.

To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

In every situation, good or bad, look for the bright side, think positive thoughts, surround yourself with positive people and positive things, give people the benefit of the doubt, have faith, believe that anything is possible. I think that sums it up.
