In my opinion, a geek is someone who is smart, and a nerd is someone who is alienated from everyone else and is on the bottom of the social chain. Nerds don't have to be geeks and vice versa. And also, nerds generally don't have social skills.

Traditionally a NERD is a student who:
-gets all A's
-wears a pocket protector
-has thick glasses
-stereotypically as we see in the movies, tv, etc.
A GEEK is the guy in the circus who bites the heads off checkens for the amusement of the crowd.
