I'm so sorry, but most vets are idiots when it comes to small animals. I suppose they figure most people won't spend much money on them, so they don't bother learning much. Go to my questions and look at the one about wet tail, There a very knowledgeable woman suggests a product called wet tail oasis plus or something like that, you can buy it at petsmart. If you have questions, I suggest emailing her, she was extremely helpful. Unfortunately, my hamster , Tawny died, but yours could possibly be saved if you act very quickly to get him hydrated.
Good luck, I know how hard this is

My sister's hamster had wet tail for 3 weeks, and didn't seem to be in too much pain for the most part. As soon as I noticed the symptoms, I rushed to the pet store and got her some Dri Tail. It helped for the rest of the 3 weeks of her life, but then she got really weak on the last day and passed away.

It's best to try to treat your hamster as soon as possible if you can.

it seems u went to the DR yesterday. wettail is usally fatal because once they have the diarrhea they have actually had the disease a couple weeks. the medication in the store rarely works. the vet meds do, if treated in time. the main thing is to prevent dehydration. put children's plain pedialyte in his water bottle. feed it with an eyedropper if he is too weak. do not feed any fresh veggies/fruit until he is better. u can feed him a bit of plain yogurt from a spoon to add good bacteria to his belly.

if u r lucky it may be plain ol diarrhea vs wettail. if it isnt super smelly & he doesnt seem weak it could be. especially if u overfed him some fresh fruit/vegs. wettail is most often caused by stress and happens within a couple months of getting the hamm. if you've had yours longer--he may just have diarrhea but will still need the pedialyte.

good luck, i wish him well.
