convert the fraction on the left so that the denominators are the same. You should get 4/6. Now, add the numerators to get 8/6=4/3=1 and 1/3. I personally prefer the 4/3 form, but most questions will asked for the mixed number form: 1 and 1/3

Good afternoon Joey.
Before you can add fractions, you have to convert them to the same dividend - that's the bottom part of the fraction.
In this case, 3 goes into 6 two times, so it's an easy conversion. Multiply both the top and bottom of 2/3 by two and you have 4/6. Then it's just a question of adding 4/6 + 4/6 and reducing the fraction when you finish.
If the fractions were more fractious, something like 7/11 + 4/13 you would have to convert both of the fractions. You would do that by multiplying 11 by 13, to give a dividend of 143 and then cross multiplying the numerator - the top number, so you would multiply 7x13 and 4x11, then add the numerators together and that would give you your answer.

find the lowest common denominator. That would be six. so in order to get 6, you need to mulitply the first number by 2/2-that equals 4/6 then add that to 4/6 and you get 8/6. which is 1 and 1/3
