Suggesting that you subject yourself to snakes to cure a fear of snakes is kind of like the thought processes of people who think they want to experiment on prison psychology and make a prison and put people in it. I would say ill advised.
Even with valid arguments for that type of ‘therapy’, there are too many unknowns here for suggestions like that to be trusted in this forum. Irrational fears are not something to be messed around with. They can be quite serious, and doing something like ‘facing your fear’ may simply increase the problem many times over. You could go from having a mild fear of snakes to be being mortally paralyzed when you see them.
Don’t go the snake pit at the zoo.
Don’t look at pirate maps with sea snakes
Don’t watch snakes on a plane.
If it is a big enough problem, go to a psychologist, there are many who have a lot of knowledge of phobias, their different causes and DIFFERENT treatments. If he/she suggests you expose yourself to snakes, make sure they have a good reason. You may want a second opinion on that one too.
If it isn’t that bad and you want to live with it that is fine to. Just don’t watch made for Sci-Fi channel movies and you’ll be set.

Man is more afraid of snakes, even the none venom ones. 1. There is a myth/story in the Christianity. A story about a snake tricking Eve into eating the apple. This is where we get that serpents are evil and the devil or demons. People still think that way because of the bible. 2. Some people go the route of Evolution. They think that way back when we were monkeys that snakes were snacking on us like food. Hence that we still have this primordial fear of them. 3. Movies. Yeah how about those "Anaconda" movies. About giant Anacondas in the South America eating people. How about, "Snakes on a Plane." Again where people have to confront their fear of snakes. How about the Sleestaks from that show "Land of the Lost" 4. People just don't like Reptilian animals at all. They think that snakes or reptiles are just plain creepy or ugly. Yeah tell me man is not afraid of them. We still have not conquered our fear of them People will tell you that we are the "Top Predator" BUT that is still a lie.

The hard way: keep exposing yourself to them. Start with pictures, then visit the zoo, then when you're ready, find somewhere where someone will let you hold one.
Keep in mind that you will always be a little bit afraid of snakes--it's adaptive to be scared of things that might cause us harm. But you don't want to be paralyzed with fear everytime a snake appears on the movie screen, and looking at them over and over again while breathing deeply and refusing to run away is the only way to get over that.

Great question! I used to handle snakes when younger but now wouldn't do it for the world. I dislike spiders. The best thing I can tell you is try to steer clear of them. If it runs the other way and you do to then you will be ok.

You areprobably not wanting to hear this but you 've got to face your fears to overcome them. maybe by handling a non-poisonous snake you can get a grip on your panic
good luck and be careful!

my mom had the same fear! she couldnt even see them on television without freaking out (she had a bad experience as a young girl) eventually we sat her down and told her not to run away screaming when they came on screen, she would squirm, but eventually she was ok with seeing them on the screen, if you ease yourself slowly into seeing them closely, learning more about them, etc. your fears may ease up. Good Luck

Exposure. Not all at once, but little by little. Call psychologists and see if any specialize in treating phobias.
