Ms S - my cat died a few years ago because of inflammatory bowel disease due to corn protein in dry cat food. I can't believe they're still putting substances in cat food that cats can't digest. How much incompetence and greed IS there in the world.

No, it isn't - but many cat foods contain it as a binding agent/stabilizer.

Yes, it is only wheat gluten, and only gluten purchased from a specific distributor in China. The only dry food affected by the recall is Science Diet's M/D because it uses wheat gluten to bind the kibbles (it has a high fat content and would otherwise fall apart without it). Theirs is a voluntary recall. They have not found any issues with their foods, but since they have purchased wheat gluten from the same people as those who's products tested positive for the melamine (sic) they are reformulating all of their M/D to no longer use wheat gluten as a binder. Many of the wet foods were recalled because they were run on the same machinery as the products tested positive for melamine, not because they actually contained melamine themselves. If you are feeding dry food, even from the manufacturers in the recall, you are fine.
