Think objectively: You have the option of choosing between two situations, both terrible. One sucks enormously more than the other, but the one that sucks less may not even be possible. Do you attempt to do the one that's probably not going to even be possible - and if it is, you'll have to fight for it a fair bit - or do you just lose hope and go with the horrible situation?

Your education is on the line. This is not a dating question.

The only reason I don't explain the situation is because it's really complicated. The way I described it is just the way it boils down.

You are better off trying for the better of the two options. Think about it this way: if you fight for the better choice and lose, at least you tried. You did your best to take control of your situation.

Also, if you fight for the better choice, you might be so motivated and energized that you would get it! Think of how great it would be to avoid the "enormously sucky" situation, and how proud you will be of yourself if you are able to avoid the extreme suckiness based on your talent and skill!

If you just give in and settle for the horrible situation, then while you are enduring the horribleness you will be wondering whether you could have avoided it if you only had tried, and you will feel even worse.

So, go for it! You may have more resources and talents available to you than you have thought of at first, and you may be able to have only a "partially sucky" outcome.

It's worth it to fight for what you want. Go for it! Good luck!

When you have to decide between two really rotten choices, pick the one that has the most promise for you. In your case, it sounds as though that should be the one that might not even be possible, and you have to fight for it. At least give it a shot - you never know when you're going to get lucky.
The other dismal choice will probably still be there if the first one fails.
Good luck to you - and i hope you get the better of the two and that it turns out not to be sucky but something you can really dig into and enjoy.
