You mean Heat Insulation or Electrical Insulation? As a general rule the materials good at one may be good at the other. Far and away the best insulator is Vaccuum. It works good in Thermos bottles, and has the best dielectric strength for capacitors. Air and materials that have entrained air are good, such as wood and plastic foam. Glass has many limitations, it is rarely pure enough to use in high electric field densities, and breaks easily on heating or cooling, certain ceramics perform better over a wider range of conditions. Anything that does not heat up in a microwave is an excellent insulator.

Materials are classified as insulators when they don't conduct electricity normally. Breakdown voltage per cm or mm is one measure of the effectiveness of a material as insulator. Porcelain, glass and many other ceramics are good insulators.

Currently, the greatest insulator known to man is aerogel. Aerogel is a man-made low-density solid-state material created from gel in which the liquid component of the gel is replaced with gas. This creates a low density solid with many amazing properties, including effectiveness as an insulator.

Glass is the most widely used insulator in use today, you see them on all the electric poles etc. Wood, plastic, rubber etc are insulators. I'm sure there is a chart somewhere on the net about this...hope this helps.

fiberglass and likewise foam with a density of a million/2lb or better, in my oppinion 2lb foam is the main suitable.. in case you reside in the barrie, on section there's a brilliant corporation wich sprays this 2lb foam referred to as insulfoam wich is a subbranch of printcrete
