First thing to check is that the processor fan is working and not filled with crud. My next guess would be the power supply fan. Make sure all your fans are running and clean.

Hey, first thing you will need to tell me, does the computer give you a message before it shuts down? Do you hear any fans running in the back ground? When did it start doing this??
If it gives you a message that says your computer will be shut down in one minute and starts a count down you might be infected by the saser worm.
If you do not hear any fans running in the back ground you might have a faulty fan and it is over heating and this is why it shuts down.
If you have done any updates in the past few days and it all started after you did them it might be a problem with the update. Try restoring the computer to before you installed the update and try to do one up date at a time and you will know witch one is the bad program that gets installed.
If the computer is a few years old it could be the fan in the power supply when you start the computer see if the fan is working if not replace the power supply
Please let me know if any of this was a help to you.
Your friend
Felix

Sounds like overheat. Pull the side case off, get rid of any dust. Start it and make sure all the fans spin. If it is more than a year old, get some new heatsink grease and pull the heatsink off the CPU, clean it and put new heatsink grease on it.
If you work out that it isn't overheating, then check RAM. Micirosoft have a good RAM test. Makes a bootable CD which automatically tests the RAM in a system.

You need to get it checked out. If it's older it could be that the processor fan is not working and your processor overheats and the computer shuts down to save it. It could also be that you have a virus that shows those same symptoms. Either way you have some work to do with it. If it's a very old computer it's not worth it to fix. New computers are relatively cheap these days. Just make sure to get a nice virus package too.

You've probably got a bad power supply or maybe a motherboard problem?. Take it to a PC repair store before you do more damage though

Likely a hardware or a driver issue. I'd upgrade your drivers on your video card and see if this doesn't fix it. Given the time period, you might need to boot into safe mode first.
