People only make a fuss about the bad things. What would get on the news - a kid stabbing someone, yet another teen suicide, a twelve year old drug addict, or a nice normal kid who doesn't do drugs, hasn't got an asbo and is generally good?
The media will always choose something bad to focus on. And because of this, people think that's what we're all like, so kids think "hang on, I'm good, so I can't be normal. I'll go act like everyone else!" and it carries on and on and on.
At the minute for me and my friends (we're all between 16 and 19 years old), being a teenager is about stress! Exams, university applications, careers, family problems, relationships....Argh! Too much pressure on us all to be perfect!
I know some screwed up people, and they're the ones who seem to be the most 'normal'. Weird.

Teenagers are not all on drugs or pregnant! We sometimes work harder than many adults . We handle going to school, keeping a job, watching younger siblings all while going through the dificulties of growing up. Its not fair for people to use this steryotype, Its like saying that all adult men juts sit around watch football, drink beer, eat pizza and dont do anything, or saying all adult women just care for kids, cook, clean and take care of their husbands. As we know some people do fit these steryotypes but many do not. Its the same with teenagers some do fit the drug, violent, pregnant and depressed steryotype but many teens dont. There are teens who are getting straight A's in school, doing communtity service, going to church and other things like that. You cant judge and entire generation because not everyone is the same. On the news you only hear about teen suicide, or "A 15 year old is pregnant" or a teen robbed a store to get money to buy drugs" This is all the population hears, what the news fails to report on is the good kids that do well in school and live happy productive lives!!
Hope This Helps!!

i have just recently left my teens, and i can assure you that that statement is not true! I was never depressed, pregnant, on drugs, anorexic, overweight, violent, arragont, suicidal as a teenager! The only thing was I was a little grumpy.
And as for depression, I'm more depressed now than when I was a teenager, all them responsibilites you have to face up to! Enjoy your youth while it lasts!

Being a teen is all about having fun & having a good time with freinds. It's also time for us to grow up and prepare for the future (get ready for college, decide what careers your interested in etc) I love being a teen and I think the stereotypes are a little stupid. We should just be focused on enjoying the rest of our childhood before we're off to do bigger and better things. :D

This is a crappy time for us because we're getting all these weird hormones and then they make us do Algebra at the same time.
If we do act a little strange or depressed sometimes, give us a break! But I have to say, this is a really good time to try and practice having a logical mind. Because we're being overcome by all of these emotional and physical feelings, it can be good training to fight this and use your brain. Later in life, it'll be a lot easier to ignore irrational feelings and make good choices.

I don't fit any stereotype. Im popular but i don't do drugs. Im a football player but i don't believe in sex b4 marriage. I think teenagers have more temptation and reasons to be screwed up than any other generation before them. You will never end up being a stereotype if you be a leader.

Well, they are all wrong. They are the reason kids and teens these days are being just like the older adults. We follow in our parents footsteps sometimes. Some may be the result of their own actions but I'm 13 and just ike my parents. We are not like that at all. I wish people would quit lying about us and admit it's cool to have us around. I like older people around for their wisdom. They talk to us like we're kids. I'm 13! Not a baby! Treat us fairly! Thanx to adults, like Bush, we are who we are. Thanx for listening.Teen hood is fun, but if I keep being treated like a kid, I won't be nice girl anymore. Remember the golden rule? Some adults must not remember it. And most adults on here seem cool. â¥

Well, lots of teenagers are like that. But i am definitely not! I guess people think that because so many teenagers are anorexic, violent, depressed, on drugs, etc.

uh. times for us is very difficult. for all the people who stereotype us are making us do it even more. i believe teens have become more violent and suicidal due to us not getting the decent respect from adults. mainly, everyone thinks we're trouble. i'm 15, and being a teen is tougher than everyone else thinks
