i am 35 weeks along, at 34 weeks was dialated to 3 (last monday exactly) I have had contractions throughout this pregnancy since i was 28 weeks or so. they have been absolutely terrible this last week-i thought of going to L&D twice but said no i'll wait it out there not consistent. but they are really bothering me what can i do walking, drinking water, resting, changing activity does not help. they come every 6-20 minutes apart but last for hours. i get both the cramping feeling and tightening feeling sometimes at same time but usually one or the other. I am afraid i'll have to deal with this pain for another 4/5 weeks and really don't think i can. any suggestions or solutions. thanks

Take some naps, rest some here and there. Take it easy, lie down if you have to. It is safe to have your baby after 36 weeks. some people go into labor early. Also first periods are often mistaken for implementation bleeding, so you could be four weeks off of your due date even. If the contractions are too hard to handle and you are unable to walk, talk, or move, have someone bring you to the doctors immediately. Usually when they get really close together you should go see a doctor. I think i'd go just to see if they can give you something to make the contractions stop or induce labor early.

I am so sorry that you are going thru this. I had to go to the hospital twice with my second son and was sent home, false labor. I tell ya, it sure felt real to me !!! How could they tell me false labor ? Anyway, I was told to walk. I walked a half circle in my apartment for 12 hours........it moves the baby down the birth canal easier. Also, I would call my Dr. and tell him what you are doing. It truly sounds like this baby is ready to come into the world a little early. Once you lose your mucus plug or you start bleeding or you break your bag of water.........head to the hospital. I wish you luck !!!
Blessings, Donna

First, if you are dilated to 3, you won't have to put up the contractions for 5 weeks. Maybe just 2. Breathing slow and heavy helps. Take some tylenol and watch tv. Use distractions. I know they hurt and they will get worse when you are in actual labor, but keeping your mind off of them is the best thing to do. If you want, concentrating on them also helps. For each one, just think that it's one less that you've gone through and one closer to the birth of your baby. When I was in labor, I watched tv. I have no clue what I was watching as it was past midnight, but it did keep my mind of them for a bit till I got my epidural. Good luck.

I would go to L&D and get evaluated, just in case you might have a UTI that is causes the contractions.. and especially since you are dialated some as well. UTI can put you into labor if not treated. I had one 2 wks ago and was causing me to have contractions. Good luck and congrats!!

they call those braxton's hicks and there is nothing you can really do about it. it can last up until you start to have real contractions. sometimes though, you can go in to emergency and let them know what going on ...they'll put you on a water IV to try to stop them. the same thing happened to me. on a Wednesday I went in and they put me on the IV, I had also dilated a couple CMs, then they went away after a couple of bags. But the following Monday the same thing happened and I ended up giving birth. she was premature. I really advise you to go in to emergency and have yourself checked out. My daughter came at about 34 weeks, oh yes, if I hadn't gone in I would not have gotten a two part shot that helps mature baby's lungs when at risk of preterm birth. doctors in NICU were surprised she could breathe on her own.

Have yourself checked out.

Good Luck!!!

You really need to ask your doctor about that. Obviously you can't take the same pain killers that you can if you are not pregnant so there needs to be another way to soothe the pain. I'm not a doctor but I can't imagine that constant contractions are a good thing.

I had the same thing and my doctor induced me (scheduled) at 38 weeks. You have no choice but to wait and see, if nothing stops them you may need t go to labor and delivery because they are timed and movement does not stop them, then thay are real! Most hospitals will let the baby come and not stop it at this farr in to the prenancy.

Have you tried lying on your left side? Drink some more fluid, I'm telling you it helps but you really have to be well-hydrated.
I would also tell the doctor, they may something they can give you.
