I have a corn plant which is about 12 feet in height ,and about the same age.I had repotted the plant once over the years.and also had to cut it down it touched already the ceiling.
But lately I find the leaves a turning brown, and when I water it,and the water comes out in the tray, the eater is almost black Is that normal?? To replant this one now would be quite a job it is so heavy.Any suggestions

This huge baby is obviously root bound and its leaching soil and isn't getting water to all of its root system because there isn't enough soil left to hold it. Its probably also too big to pick up and sit in a pot/bucket of water every week to ten days.

It seem like its time to trim it back over a few cycles until it is manageable enough to re-pot.

It better to save the basis of the smaller original plant rather than have the bigger one do poorly as it tries to grow out of the room.

Sometimes Gardner's have to amputate, too.

The black water isn't a problem for the plant. If you want, you can take the plant outside and flush it for a few hours, and it won't do that anymore.

I suggest repotting it again. I've had a corn plant to actually split it's pot open it was so root-bound. Another option is to start over with a new one. You can cut the top out of the plant and root the cutting(s) and start a "new" one from the old one.
