It depends on what oil pan and filter are on the motor, but it's usually 6-7 quarts.

5 total quarts in a car including the filter. The filter is a PF-35 AC Delco. Here's an oil and oil filter change tip. Before putting a new filter on carefully fill the center hole till the oil reaches to top of the interior threads and spin the filter back on.
The reason for this: The motor will have much quicker oil pressure preventing "dry" start up. This tip came from Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins drag race engine builder from Malvern PA..

Depends on your oil pan. Start out with a new filter and ad 5 qtsWait a min. and check the dipstick as it reads add 1 qt and depending on how low it is on the dipstick add some to bring it up to the mark. DO NOT OVERFILL!!!! As this is worse than running a qt low. Reason being the oil foams up and won't flow while the crankshaft is spinning.
