It is suggested that researchers not only educate themselves in regards to genetic characteristics of people with different sexual orientations but also about those same people's mental and behavorial styles. Describe this statement please.

When trying to understand such a complex construct like sexual orientation, researchers explore different areas of psychological functioning. People in general, have different cognitive styles as well as behavioral patterns. Psychologists researching in the area of personality, are interested in individual differences or interpersonal differences. That's why they're trying to find out if people with different sexual orientation also differ in some other characteristics.

I don't know if this is the answer you are looking for but here goes... what they are trying to decide is if there are certain characteristics that only people with a certain orientation may have that can help to determine what exactly it is that makes them the way that they are... maybe they are trying to prove whether or not being gay (or straight) is actually genetics or a choice...
