I was cleaning my ears out Sat. morning and when I finished I could barely hear. I was using a Q-TIP which my mom told told me I should never do. It has been this way since Sat. and is really starting to aggrevate me. What could be the problem? It has done this before but it got better within a day. It is also giving me a slight headache.

It could be that you pushed the wax further into your ear canal causing a blockage. If you are sure you have not perforated your eardrum, you can safely treat the problem yourself at home.

To treat yourself:
Put a few drops of mineral oil, baby oil, glycerine or over-the-counter ear wax removal product into the affected ear. Leave alone and the wax usually will work its way out.

DO NOT use fluid or irrigate your ear. If the fluid gets trapped under the built up wax, you will develop an ear infection.

If the ear does not feel better and hearing has not returned a few days after using the oil or if you aren't sure that you haven't damaged the eardrum, please see your doctor who can safely remove the wax blockage.

i agree with ilse72. you have blocked your ear. since he has already said what i would have. in the future when you shower with hot water slghtly turn your head over and then clean it. q-tips is something i use aswell but dont recommend. i guess it takes time to get used to new methods. anyways yes you have blocked your ear use the oil or go see a doctor who will clean them out. it takes a quick minute with some sort of water pressure does not hurt. but then again i dont know your pain level. anyways when the wax is gone it will be weird for you and you will be thats too loud for a few days even if the volume would be low. anyways wish you the best of luck. try webmd.com
