I have a friend who has tripled her activity level while cutting down her caloric intake. She was already super-skinny. Recently, she has gotten more bony looking, her muscles have started to shrink, and she hasn't had a period in 5 months. What do you think is wrong? What should I do? I am open to any and all serious responses.

This may be very hard for you to accept, but it could be quite possible that she has an eating disorder. Unfortunately, you cannot just "fix" it. In order for your friend to get better, she may need therapy and medical guidance. However, the most crucial point is that she must want to do this. She must be willing to get help. I know what it is like to be in your situation if it is an eating disorder. The only thing you can do is try to explain to her and encourage healthier choices such as eating balanced-meals and not excessively exercising. Good luck!

Your friend is showing symptoms of anorexia or bullimia, if she hasn't had a period for 5 months this is not a good sign she needs some help to over come this before it gets even more serious

Sounds like anorexia. My sister had it and it's the same symptoms. Tell her she needs help and if she doesnt get it on her own, you will need to tell a family member.

sounds like she could be on drugs of some sort. Missing periods are common in woman that don't eat correctly.

Sounds like she is anorexic. I would call and talk to her mom, or call a doctor for some advice on what you can do to help her.
