Wow! The place is packed with attractions - really. What do you like to do? Nature, museums, government ...?
Cherry blossoms around the Jefferson Memorial first week of April;
National Arboretum on New York Avenue any time;
Museums of Art, Science, History - whatever you want.
The Smithsonian alone has a dozen museums; I recommend the Air & Space Museum and the Natural History Museum;
You can visit Congress and see your government at work;

Visit the Capital, White House and other public buildings of interest. However, due to the terroristic threats some are off limits, but you can ride by and look at them. The Smithsonian Institute is the best. George Washington's home is not far and the old town of Alexandria is great. Georgetown is interesting and the monuments are all good. Be careful downtown at dark and travel in a group of four or more.
