How much are you willing to spend? If you're starting out, go with a Fender Rumble 60, it's a decent amplifier, and won't cost you that much. Don't buy a Mark Hoppus Signature bass, it's basically a Jazz bass body with a string thru bridge and Quarter Pound pickups. And it has no tone control. You can easily upgrade your P-Bass later on and you won't spend as much.

well if your just starting just buy the fender bass amp that comes with it (as in most places you can by the fender p-bass amp combo) and then worry about a better amp later
it's not as if your going to be playing shows any time soon
so get the nice bass and just jam with the amp you have now anything around 100watts will be just fine for playing with a gituar or 2 in your garage worry about getting the towers later when you need it

If you're just learning, then get something cheap to practice on. You aren't playing shows yet, and you can always upgrade later if you need to. Once you're a little more skilled, then you'll have a better idea of what you do and don't like about different amps. For now, focus on the playing.

I practice on a little Peavey MicroBass with an 8" speaker. For just starting and practicing, that's about all you need.

I play on stage with a larger Crate amp (which belongs to the church), and I am not too impressed with the sound or the quality, so I wouldn't recommend a Crate amp

(sorry, Crate people that's my opinion).

(BTW: I Play an Ibenez SR200)

Good luck with your learning and playing.

during your learning, you really only need a small 8" or 12" bass amp. You will get decent sound and really dont need to get anything expensive in that the bigger and moreexpensive ones really just enable you to turn up the volume....while your learning it would be best to be able to actually "listen" to your music...good luck

Ive played in a lot of bands and lots of shows in different states and what-not, and Ampeg amps are really really reliable, road worthy, great quality, and a decent price for just starting out.

Ask for advice from the store you are buying the bass from.

buy the cheapest second hand one you can find... then, after you learn how to play a little, you'll also learn what kind of amp is right for you...
