"In the Japanese fishing village of Taiji, fishermen are rounding up and slaughtering hundreds and even thousands of dolphins right now. After driving pods of dolphins into shallow coves, the fishermen kill the dolphins, slashing their throats with knives or stabbing them with spears..." (go to savejapandolphins.org to read more)
Ok, I understand that ppl are going 2 eat meat or fish, but is it right to kill them in the inhumane way that they are in Taiji, Japan? I personally don't think so. To have them still alive while you chop them into little pieces is very cruel in my opinion. Just because they are animals, does that make it ok to kill them how you wish? If you had to be killed, would you rather just be instantly killed and get it over with or rather be tortured right beside your family?
So I want to know what you think and why. Do you also think that it needs to be stopped? If you think that it's ok that they are being killed like this, why do you feel that way?

If you haven't heard about this before, you can google 'japan dolphin slaughtering video' and you should be able to find it. The video is graphic and disturbingly sad.

It's not just the fact that they are being killed, it's how they are being killed that bothers me.

I know that some ppl don't sign online petitions for their reasons, but remember that whole Kitty In A Jar fiasco? Well, a lot of ppl banded together to stand up for what's right and eventually the FBI got involved and even though it turned out to be fake, with enough people, we can stop it from happening another day.

Apperently though, it's not all of Taiji that is doing this, I think they said it was like 26 fishermen. Not exactly sure on those numbers but if it's just a few people and not the whole city, then, why can't we stop it?

The killing of intelligent creatures is very bad, whether it be human, dolphin, whale, dog, cat, etc. Those Japanese fishermen know, or should know, that they are killing intelligent creatures. Their philosphy about this is different from yours and mine, and I can assume their bottom line is that it is a matter of their livelihoodl. This is how these fisherman chose to make their living and to feed their families.

The torturing of living things is yet another matter. Whether it be Iraqis with a power drill or whatever practices are commited on dolphins. I respectfully decline to view your link because it would disturb me, but I'm sure you're correct about the suffering these creatures have to endure in order to die.

Yes, there is a need to stop this, and all slaughter of living things, which is going on right now in all parts of the world, should be stopped. But how? Through petitions?

One way one country or nation enforces its beliefs, good or bad, on another soveirgn nation, is to make war. In this case we would be torturing and killing intelligent creatures in order to stop them from torturing and killing intelligent creatures. So, I vote no war. Are you listening George Bush?

Another way is through education. But then, there are those perpetrators that refuse to be taught.

There is no easy answer. I would tend to rely on the growth and maturation of humanity's spiritual essence. Even though, judging by some of the answers on this website, humanity seems as if it were undergoing a period of devolution, in the long run I think spiritual growth is inevitable. Here's hoping a sea change happens within our lifetime.

First off, no-one pays attention to online petitions, for the good reason that they dont mean anything and arent verifiable.

Secondly I think its an awful thing to even think about killing a dolphin. If youve ever been around dolphins and interacted with them, you know theyre more like humans than any other animal. Theyre actually the only animal besides humans that has sex for fun, outside of a specific "mating season" like other animals have. I'd consider killing a dolphin the same thing as killing a person. Youd have to be cold hearted as hell to kill one.

But yes, if they absolutely must be killed, it should be done humanely.

I did not know that was going on. I thought that the dolphins was protected from being hunted? I think that it is wrong for you to kill a dolphin.

no I do not think dolphins should be slaughtered. I do not think any thing should suffer when they die or for any other reason. I also do not think that lobsters should be kept in tanks at our local restaurant's why doesn't this seem to matter? Thank you for caring. I will look at the information you provided.

I think that they need to kill to survive. they need to eat too. killing hundreds and thousands of them, though, seems excessive. I don't agree with the way it's being done. I'm not up to snuff on their culture but that does seem rather inhumane. I don't like it at all.
