I'm moving to a new place and need to decide if I should upgrade my DirevTV box to get DirecTV DVR or stick w/ TiVo. Do you recommend one service over the other or are they pretty much interchangeable?

Tivo is better in the way the interface is setup and what not. It offers several features which the DirectTV DVR doesn't offer such as season passes, online scheduling, etc. With season passes you can record entire seasons of shows without having to remember when they are on each week, or if one particular episode is longer (example season finale). With online scheduling, you can schedule to record shows from away from your home, anywhere you have an internet connection.

One of the major downside's to Tivo is that the newer Tivo's do not support DirectTV. So unless you want to buy a used Direct Tivo off of ebay, then the Direct TV DVR is your best choice.

Hi JBadge,

I will admit I am biased. I prefer TiVO because of simplicity of use. Their schedule is always correct because it is updated every day. I can program TiVO to record from out of town over the Internet. TiVO learns what you like and recommends shows that you might like. Often times we never would have known they were on. You can program an entire season of a given series with a single click and TiVO never forgets. You can tell TiVO you like someone or something and it will locate shows for you. For example if you tell it you like John Wayne it will watch for and record anything he is on.

I could go on and on about TiVO. There is one downside and that is the monthly (you can pay yearly if you want) fee.

If i were u then i would get TiVo because you can pause rewind and record your favorite shows(but I think they are the same thing they may be).
